Torridon is best known by mountaineers and walkers for the trinity of fine mountains on its northern flanks, namely Beinn Alligin, 986 metres (3,235 ft), Liathach, 1,055 metres (3,461 ft), and Beinn Eighe, 1,010 metres (3,310 ft). One of the best viewpoints for Liathach is the lovely Loch Clair situated in the heart of Glen Torridon. Most photographers capture Liathach in isolation, but I have always been impressed by the composition obtained in panoramic format by the inclusion of the neighbouring peak of Sgurr Dubh, an outlying peak of the Coulin Forest. On this cold and frosty spring day the warm light of early morning bathed the whole scene and enriched the colours of the pine trees, the heather, the reeds and the bracken to perfection.
