The view of Wastwater including Yewbarrow, Great Gable and The Scafell Pikes is one of the most popular amongst British mountain scenes. However, on this November morning I was looking for something different and original that focussed specifically on Great Gable and The Scafells, and decided to wander beyond the ‘traditional’ viewpoint for Wastwater towards Wasdale Head to a location on the lakeside beneath Yew Crag.
From here I obtained my print, captured on the Canon EOS 5D Mark III. The main issue was the direction of the light which, as always at this time of year, was low and on this occasion did introduce offer more shadow on the west side of the Scafells than I would have wished. However, this image is precisely what I set out to achieve which highlights the main items of interest in this valley - Wastwater lake, Great Gable, and The Scafells - the highest mountains in England.
