The great wall that is formed by the adjacent summits of Nuptse and Lhotse features strongly from all the viewpoints on the trails to Everest Base Camp. However the section that supports the summit of Lhotse, Everest's southern neighbour and the fourth highest peak in the world, is particularly steep, challenging and visually of interest. Due to its height, a good sunset can often be seen on the great south wall of Lhotse, enhancing the visibilty of the highly banded rock formations. The best viewpoints are to be enjoyed somewhat distant from the face either from Thyangboche or here at Dingboche at the western end of the Imja Khola Valley.
