There are numerous viewpoints for Great Gable as one approaches along Wastwater to Wasdale Head, but after many visits here I now firmly believe that there is none better than this one from Lingmell Beck. From here one can fully appreciate the form and detail of the mountain and particularly the Napes Crags, considered to be the birthplace of English rock climbing. I would have preferred to capture this image in morning light which would have provided a better interpretation of the relief of the mountain, but returning to Seathwaite after a making a morning traverse of Sty Head Pass I needed to be satisfied with what was, at least, an image of the mountain on a clear day.
