The view of Wastwater including Yewbarrow, Great Gable and The Scafell Pikes is one of the most popular amongst British mountain scenes, indeed I produce a print of it myself entitled 'Wastwater', Catalogue No. LD022-P. However, on this November morning I was looking for something different and original that focussed specifically on Great Gable and The Scafells. So, on this occasion I walked beyond the 'traditional' viewpoint for Wastwater towards Wasdale Head to a location on the lakeside beneath Yew Crag.
From here I obtained my final print, produced from five images captured on the Canon EOS 5D Mark III. The main issue was the direction of the light which, as always at this time of year, was low and on this occasion did introduce offer more shadow on the west side of the Scafells than I would have wished.
Later on this morning when the sun had moved a little more to the south I captured another image of The Scafells on their own, and that print is available as 'The Scafells from Wasdale', Catalogue No. LD016-L.
