Ama Dablam îs one of the most well-known and certainly one of the most instantly recognisable peaks of the Himalayas. One of the finest views of the mountain is that from the Sherpa village of Khumjung where the most striking feature of the mountain, its north-western face, is revealed. High on the face is a huge glacier called 'The Dablam' from which the peak is named. Ama Dablam's translated name is 'Mother's Necklace'.
