Blencathra, or Saddleback as it is known to local people is one of the most recogniseable and popular peaks of the Lake District. Its most interesting features are the ridges of its south face - Scales, Hall's, Doddick and Gatesgill Fells separated by steep and often scree filled gullies. This aspect of Blencathra is best captured across Threlkeld Common in early morning light from the summit of neighbouring Clough Head.
