The magnificent peak of Pumori dominates the Khumbu Valley and is visible throughout the ascent of the valley all the way to Everest Base Camp. One of the most instantly recogniseable peaks in the region, it is probably seen at its best from here on the trail between Lobuche and Gorak Shep beneath the moraines of the Khumbu Glacier. The rocky black summit of Kala Pattar, the small peak regularly climbed by trekkers to the valley, lies on the extension to Pumori's south ridge and is visible in this image. The peak adjacent to Pumori on the right of this image is Lingtrense.
